During the close season, umpires’ and scorers’ training and examinations are held locally by several branches of the ECB Officials Association. This includes a special two-day level one umpires course at Leigh on Sea in February 2012. See below for more information.

Scorers’ Courses

At present, the South Essex District Cricket Board is unaware of any dedicated courses for scorers apart from a correspondence course (see below).  On some district board websites there is reference to an ECB ACO Scoring level one training taking place at an East London cricket club, but our investigations reveal that there is considerable doubt that this course will take place due to potential unavailability of both venue and the tutor, therefore we are not listing it until the course is confirmed.

Paul Brice, Chairman of the Essex County Cricket Board Officials Association, has subsequently advised that scorers can be accommodated at the umpires courses at Wanstead and Snaresbrook CC and at Tilbury Community Centre, as dedicated scorer trainers are available.
