Hadleigh and Thundersley cricket club are our Indoor Champions
Hadleigh and Thundersley cricket club became South Essex Indoor Champions last night (Sunday) following a twelve-run win at the Chelmsford indoor centre.
This was quite an achievement, as their opponents, Belhus, were last year’s National champions.
Hadleigh’s captain, Oliver Smith struck a magnificent undefeated 59 and valuable support was offered with 41 not out from Adam Dobson. These two were the chief architects in a final score of 148 for the loss of four wickets.
In reply, Belhus lost wickets at regular intervals though Daniel Dreher’s three consecutive sixes off Richard Straker’s third over threatened to turn the match away from Hadleigh. Dreher finished with 23 and he received support from Martin Guilbert 17, Michael Fogg 22, Danny Joyce 36 not out while Danny Norris hit 22. Straker struck back to claim two wickets, including the vital scalp of the hard hitting Dreher while Dobson completed a fine all-round match by claiming the wicket of Belhus opener Ryan Wells with his second delivery. Belhus were eventually restricted to 136 for the loss of five wickets.
