Game 2 vs Metropolitan

This was scheduled to be an away game but with Metropolitan unable to provide a pitch, Eastwood CC stepped in in order that the game could go ahead. Thanks to Neil for accommodating not only the U13s but also the U11s.

This game was always going to be tough, there were several team changes and we were hopeful we could maintain the performance levels from the previous day.

Matt Mohan again won the toss and elected to bat. The opening bowlers were excellent and we did well to dig in and not lose too many wickets. This time we managed to bat 38.2 overs but the only significant contributions with the bat were from David Jarrett 30 and Sam Mellor 39.
Fortunately the opposition provide us with 56 extras and we finished on 153. We considered this to be a reasonable target, the outfield was not very fast and it would be difficult to score boundaries.

This time we just didn’t get going, we bowled far too many wides (28 in total) and the intensity in the field was low. There was some tight bowling from Michael Pearn 12 for 1 off 5 overs, Sam Mellor 15 for 2 off 5 overs and Tommy Pinkerton 23 for 3 from 6 overs.

Metropolitan went onto win by 2 wickets, scoring the runs in the 36th over.

At times we thought it was possible we could sneak another win, however in my opinion it would have been undeserved.

This was a game we could have won, I think our preparation and application for the second part of the game was poor, in hindsight I think the boys accept this and as long as they learn from this I am sure we can perform at a high level in our remaining games later in the summer.

Finally would like to say thank you to the scorers and parents who helped out setting up and especially with the teas and clearing up at the end of the game, Neil and myself really appreciate it.
