Last Man Stands coming to Chelmsford and Wivenhoe

THE exciting Last Man Stands competition is running two new leagues in Chelmsford and Colchester this year.

The format, which features eight-a-side midweek evening T20 matches, will now be held at Chelmsford Cricket Club at Chelmer Park and at the University of Essex’s Wivenhoe Park campus.

That means that along with existing competitors in Redbridge, Harold Wood, Colchester and Basildon, there are now six divisions where local teams compete to earn the chance to represent the South East at the national finals in September.

It all gets underway in mid-May and organisers hope a team may emulate last year’s success for Canvey CC, who won the Basildon league and then progressed to the national finals as South East runners-up.

LMS regional manager Steve Hayes said: “Our six leagues now accommodate 650 cricketers, and over a third have signed up over the past year.

“We expect that to grow again considerably this year and we would love to hear from new teams.”
