CRICKET BOARD News & Information
PEGS ARE SUNDAY INDOOR CRICKET CHAMPIONS
Pegasus and Corringham are the South Essex District Cricket Board's
Sunday league champions with a 100% record after a six-wicket victory
over last year's winners Stanford le Hope. Stanford looked in good
shape as Ian Sanderson and Duncan Page both rattled up fine undefeated
half centuries with 53 and 50 respectively - only for Pegasus and
Corringham to casually pass the Stanford target of 110-4, through Hymas,
25 not out, Bennett, 30 not out, Sayer, 25 not out and Turnbull, 21 not
out. Pegs finished on 113 without loss and achieved victory with 3.5
overs to spare. They now go on to face the winners of the Southend area
competition in a play-off ahead of the county finals, but that will not
take place until November. |

One of the best individual performances
from our indoor six a side programme occurred on Friday 19th
February 2010 when Declan Rydings took five wickets without
conceding a single run for Orsett CC in their U14 youth fixture with
Grays and Chadwell CC at Grays School. In his first over, the young
leg-spinner claimed three wickets in four balls - all stumped. In
his second over, two further wickets were taken, one bowled and one
caught. The catch was taken by the wicketkeeper Connor Hammond -
giving him five victims in all.

Indoor Cricket Report - Play-off Final - from the
South Essex District Cricket Board
Stanford le Hope 79 all out
Hadleigh and Thundersley 81-4
Hadleigh and Thundersley CC will represent the South Essex District
Cricket Board in the Essex Indoor six-a-side cricket finals after an
impressive display against Stanford le Hope CC in a play-off final at
the Ashwells Graham Gooch Indoor cricket centre at Essex County Cricket
Club on Tuesday evening (3rd November 2009).
Stanford batted first and were soon in trouble against a lively opening
attack from Hadleigh's Adam Sollieux and Tim Lowes. After three overs,
Stanford had half their team back in the dressing room as they stuttered
to 11 for 3, but then Matthew Page and Ross Poulton staged a dramatic
recovery. Page was eventually run out for 25, while Ross Poulton struck
a fine 27, until he was stumped in the final over with the team score on
79. Sollieux finished with 1-11 from three overs while Lowes finished
on 1-14, also from three overs.
Brothers Michael and Paul Tibbenham started confidently for Hadleigh, as
these two put on 39, but with the final ball of the fifth over, Michael
Tibbenham was bowled by Ian Sanderson for 14. Sibling Paul continued
the scoring by reaching the compulsory retirement score with 26 not out,
while Joe Robbins contributed a further dozen runs. With Hadleigh
requiring just six runs to win from the three remaining overs, Lee
Knight conceded just two runs from a vital tenth over, the game almost
turned on its head as Page achieved a wicket maiden, dismissing Adam
Fleming courtesy of a Robert Page stumping. However, Lowes and Sollieux
completed the job in the final over by scoring the required runs.
The South Essex District Cricket Board would like to congratulate
Hadleigh and Thundersley for reaching the finals and would also like to
acknowledge the excellent work of the scorers provided by each club as
well as the two umpires, Charles Osbourn and John Owen. |
The Annual
General Meeting of the South Essex District Cricket Board will be held at

8pm start. All club representatives are welcome to attend.
On Tuesday 3rd November 2009, the South Essex District Cricket
Board move their Winter indoor six a side cricket activity to the Ashwell

competitions from last Winter, being Hadleigh and Thundersley CC and
Stanford le Hope CC. There is some spectator viewing available and entry is
free. The winners will go through to the County Indoor finals, which will
take place in January 2010.
The South Board have recently secured some new voluntary officers to join
its Management Board. They are Ian Wright, who has a dual role as Senior
Outdoor Competitions Secretary and Senior Indoor Cricket Secretary for our
West (Thurrock) area. In addition, David Webster has been appointed as
Indoor Cricket Secretary for our East (Southend) area. We currently have
vacancies for the voluntary roles of Vice-Chairman, Womens and Girls Cricket
Co-Ordinator and a Groundsmanship co-ordinator. Anyone interested in
applying should contact South Board Chairman Paul Brice, at
paul.g.brice@btinternet.com.
Thurrock
and Basildon College have announced that they are proposing to launch a
Cricket Academy in line with their BTEC Sports Courses. After successfully
running a football Academy for six years, the Cricket Academy will run in
conjunction with the colleges BTEC Level 1, 2 or 3 courses with pathways to
local Universities and Employment. The Academy does not conflict with the
cricket season, only to prepare players for the forthcoming season through a
high level of coaching. Students will help in the running of and take part
in an Inter Cricket league. Students will also have the opportunity to
achieve their Level 1 Cricket Coaching Award along with many other great
opportunities to gain additional qualifications in First Aid and Leaders
Award. If you require any further information, please contact Elliot
Stamps, sports lecturer at the college on 01375 362791 or via email at
