Major Initiative in Womens and Girls Cricket is Under Way…

The South Essex District Cricket Board has started to implement its development programme for Womens and Girls cricket which, thanks to £1000 grant aid from the Essex Community Foundation, sees FREE cricket coaching and indoor cricket being scheduled at Grays School from January 2011.  Beyond that, for the 2011 outdoor season, it is envisaged that a programme of fixtures will be arranged between our member clubs.   Our head coach for the coaching and indoor programme will be Laura Knight.  Speaking shortly after plans were unanimously backed by this District Board, Secretary Cliff Cansdale said: “We recently held a review meeting to look at the way we delivered our cricket for both genders and recognised that there were some inequalities that existed in this delivery.  The steps we have now taken should eradicate these issues.  We are most grateful to the Essex Community Foundation for funding this initiative”.

It is understood that registration forms for the coaching and indoor cricket will be available soon, together with a small questionnaire to ensure all particpants’ needs are being met, especially in view of womens and girls team placements for the 2011 season.  With this in mind, specific womens and girls teams are being identified in our area and details of these clubs and teams are being posted on our “Womens and Girls Cricket” page as they become known.
