Latest Information:
Belhus CC represented our Board in the Senior County Indoor finals, which were held on Saturday 7th January 2012 at the Graham Gooch Essex Autogroup Indoor Cricket Centre, Ford County Ground, New Writtle Street, Chelmsford. They met Buckhurst Hill at the semi-final stage. The match report is shown below.
Buckhurst Hill 113 all out
Belhus 55 all out
Belhus faced an uphill struggle when they faced Buckhurst Hill from the Shepherd Neame League Premier Division in a semi-final clash of the Essex Indoor Club Championship at Chelmsford on Saturday evening. Hill batted first with openers Ian Russell and Ray Parkinson setting the early pace. After 3.5 overs, the score had progressed to 38 without loss but then Russell was brilliantly stumped by Belhus wicketkeeper Michael Fogg off the bowling of Daniel Dreher for 15 runs. A further 30 runs were added until Russell Beckett was bowled by Martin Guilbert for just nine runs, but then the premier division batsmen turned up the heat in the final six overs as Parkinson contributed 33 and Rohan Bhome hit 30 until both succumbed to run out dismissals by the youthful Belhus fielders. Guilbert added a second wicket to his personal tally when he caught and bowled Daniel Platt for nine runs as the impressive East London outfit were dismissed for 113. Guilbert returned figures of 2-35 from three overs but the most economical bowler was Dreher, 1-17, also from three overs.
Things did not go according to plan for the North Stifford-based club as Ryan Wells was dismissed with a direct hit at the bowler’s end from a throw originating at backward point in the first over – and after just two runs had been scored. A further 19 runs were compiled but then Fogg was caught by Parkinson to become the first of three scalps claimed by Beckett. Fogg contributed six runs to the tally and Joe Joyce added some stability to the innings with eleven runs. Danny Norris was trapped leg before without score but the Belhus tail wagged in the face of adversity. Dreher completed a fine all-round game by scoring 18 and last man Guilbert had a final say with 13 runs. But in the end Buckhurst Hill emerged as worthy contenders for the final, as Beckett picked up 3-23 from three overs and Platt 2-12 from two.
Belhus can look back at their long campaign with pride in which they became local indoor champions in both Thurrock midweek and Sunday competitions last Winter, thus earning the right to compete at the Essex finals. They may have been disappointed with the result on Saturday, but the fact they had reached the last four within the whole of Essex demonstrated a significant achievement for which the team can feel very proud.
