Indoor Cricket Report – South Board Play-off Final

Stanford le Hope 79 all out
Hadleigh and Thundersley 81-4

Hadleigh and Thundersley CC will represent the South Essex District Cricket Board in the Essex Indoor six-a-side cricket finals after an impressive display against Stanford le Hope CC in a play-off final at the Ashwells Graham Gooch Indoor cricket centre at Essex County Cricket Club on Tuesday evening (3rd November 2009).

Stanford batted first and were soon in trouble against a lively opening attack from Hadleigh’s Adam Sollieux and Tim Lowes. After three overs, Stanford had half their team back in the dressing room as they stuttered to 11 for 3, but then Matthew Page and Ross Poulton staged a dramatic recovery. Page was eventually run out for 25, while Ross Poulton struck a fine 27, until he was stumped in the final over with the team score on 79. Soilleux finished with 1-11 from three overs while Lowes finished on 1-14, also from three overs.

Brothers Michael and Paul Tibbenham started confidently for Hadleigh, as these two put on 39, but with the final ball of the fifth over, Michael Tibbenham was bowled by Ian Sanderson for 14. Sibling Paul continued the scoring by reaching the compulsory retirement score with 26 not out, while Joe Robbins contributed a further dozen runs. With Hadleigh requiring just six runs to win from the three remaining overs, Lee Knight conceded just two runs from a vital tenth over, the game almost turned on its head as Page achieved a wicket maiden, dismissing Adam Fleming courtesy of a Robert Page stumping. However, Lowes and Soilleux completed the job in the final over by scoring the required runs.

The South Essex District Cricket Board would like to congratulate Hadleigh and Thundersley for reaching the finals and would also like to acknowledge the excellent work of the scorers provided by each club as well as the two umpires, Charles Osbourn and John Owen.
